Perang Pisang Ceremony

Perang Pisang ceremony including into one of Balinese people custom. Perang Pisang or Banana War in English conserved by local people in Tenganan village, Daud Tukad, Manggis District, Karangasem. It is about 60 km from the eastern side of Denpasar, Bali or 70 minutes driving from Denpasar. Tenganan Daud Tukad village is one of old village in Bali that called Bali Aga.

Perang Pisang ceremony is an event to choose chairman and vice chairman of a youth group in this village. Perang Pisang will test mental and discipline of the candidates before they are being leaders. Perang Pisang holds in the third month of Tenganan calendar. Before Perang Pisang begins all of teenagers in this village obliged to pick up bananas in the village.

Perang Pisang accommodates a war between 16 boys who had chosen by Kelian Adat to fight the candidate of chairman and vice chairman of the teenager group. They wearing custom clothes such as kamben and udeng. They are in shirtless condition while they are waiting command to attack. All of people asked to border the road which will pass by both candidates. Perang Pisang enlightened by gamelan Bali voice that played by the village elders.
