Tanah Lot: Beautiful Temple in the Middle of the Sea
Tanah lot is a Balinese term which means land in the middle of the sea. Tanah Lot is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Bali. Located in Tabanan Regency, Tanah Lot is only 20 km away from the main city Denpasar. This tourist spot offers you with beautiful scenery of beach and a temple which built on a offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide.
The temple Pura Tanah Lot, simple in its construction, is dramatic in its ocean-front location and is one of the main temples in the worship of Balinese gods. You can only come close to the temple during the low tide. During high water, the lower part of the rock is hidden under the water; therefore the temple is looks like located in the middle of the sea.
If you want to come here, sunset time is the best time. The golden red skies will beautifully frame the temple. With the rush of wave crash into the rock, it is such beautiful scenery to see. If you already there, don’t forget to see the poisonous snake living in the nearby caves that believed at the temple guardian. You don’t have to worry because there are some men in traditional Balinese uniform that take care of the large snake. If you want to, these men can also pray for you in a Hindu traditional short ceremony. Inside the cave there is a water spring which water is believed to be able to keep you young.
To reach this site, you will have to walk through a carefully planned set of Balinese market-format souvenir shops which cover each side of the path down to the sea.
